OHSU and Randall Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel are pleased to offer a Fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. Uniting both children's hospitals in Portland in a mission to educate the next generation of pediatric emergency physicians. We welcome your application for fellowship to our program!

Overview

OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital and Randall Children's Hospital (RCH) at Legacy Emanuel are pleased to offer an ACGME accredited Fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. We are currently recruiting for our next PEM fellow who will begin in July. This partnership in post-graduate education unites both children's hospitals in Portland with a mission to educate our next generation of pediatric emergency physicians.

The Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU supports additional fellowships in EMS, Toxicology, Research, Administration, Ultrasound and Education.

Clinical training is split across two state-of-the-art children's hospitals, offering fellows a mix of academic and community environments. Both RCH and OHSU are regional Level 1 Pediatric Trauma centers, serving a large catchment area including Oregon and Southwest Washington.

RCH is a large, busy, urban community hospital with a full spectrum of tertiary pediatric services and subspecialists. Its 9-story, freestanding children's hospital has 165 inpatient beds as well as houses a 22-bed Children's Emergency Department.

OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital is the regional academic and referral center and is affiliated with the OHSU School of Medicine. It serves as the research and academic base of the PEM fellowship, allowing fellows opportunities to teach medical trainees of all levels while taking care of a wide range of both common and complex medical conditions.

Emergency medicine residency training occurs jointly at both institutions. The mix of environments is synergistic and offers learners a balanced training environment with unique clinical and academic perspectives.

Our mission is to provide an outstanding clinical, research, educational and administrative experience by leveraging strengths from two partnering institutions and committed faculty. We welcome your application for fellowship from either Emergency Medicine or Pediatric disciplines.

How to Apply

We welcome prospective applicants to contact Kimberly Regner, Fellowship Program Coordinator, via e-mail atregner@ohsu.edu with any questions during the application process.

U.S. graduates of either accredited 3 or 4 year Emergency Medicine or 3 year Pediatric Residency are welcome to apply.  ABEM requires a minimum of 2 years of fellowship training, though 3 years are strongly encouraged with an opportunity and funding to complete a Masters degree through the School of Public Health at OHSU. Pediatric graduates are required by ABP to complete 3 years of training with the same opportunity for an advanced degree.

The curriculum is designed to meet board requirements but remains highly flexible to meet individual needs. Applicants with an interest in taking an active role in their training are encouraged to apply.

This program participates in the national match. We use the ERAS application system and the NRMP Match program to appoint fellows. A limited number of applicants will be invited to interview in Portland in the fall every year.
