Internal Medicine Residency Program

Welcome to the OHSU Internal Medicine Residency Program
We are committed to training outstanding general internists. Whether you are destined for primary care, hospital medicine, or a subspecialty, we want you to walk away with the foundational knowledge and skills that will help you to thrive in your career. We empower our residents with the support, mentorship, and opportunities necessary to fully explore their interests and become future leaders in their chosen fields. We believe strongly in the importance of fostering a culture of belonging, such that everyone feels heard, valued, and respected. Some highlights of our program include diverse clinical experiences across multiple training sites, innovative curricula with a commitment to advocacy and global health, supportive faculty who care deeply for our residents, and a collaborative community that is dedicated to lifelong learning, health equity, and relief of suffering.
Our vision and mission for the program is to develop exceptional and compassionate physicians from diverse backgrounds through the care of our community, dedication to and advocacy for underserved communities, delivery of high value, evidence-based care, and engagement with scholarship to foster ongoing intellectual curiosity. We inspire learners to develop flexible and adaptable skillsets to navigate a changing healthcare environment, to empower the pursuit of personal interests, to be leaders in their communities, and to be proponents of social change with an understanding of equity and justice in healthcare.
We will continue to host our interviews virtually for the foreseeable future. While we regret the lost opportunity for face-to-face connection with our applicants, we strongly believe this is outweighed by what is gained in terms of equity and environmental health. Requiring travel for in-person interviews creates a system of inequity among applicants. It also contributes significantly to climate change, which we believe physicians have a moral imperative to address given its substantial impact on the health of our patients. To ensure that you still get an adequate sense of who we are, we will continue to provide details about our residency through our website, social media account (Instagram), and comprehensive program videos.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. We hope that you walk away with an understanding of our program, what we offer, and what makes our community special. We are thrilled that you are considering us for your future training and look forward to the opportunity to connect with you!
Sincerely,
