Biography

Dr. Dongseok Choi is a data scientist who led the creation of two new biostatistics graduate programs that are now part of the School of Public Health – the Master of Science in Biostatistics and the Graduate Certificate in Biostatistics. He served as the Co-Director of both programs from 2010 to 2015.

His current research interests are developing deep learning algorithms for medical imaging data, semi-supervised learning and “bump hunting” algorithms for big data, and statistical methods for next generation sequencing data. He is a highly sought-after collaborative scientist working on the interdisciplinary and translational research in ophthalmology, otolaryngology and inflammation diseases.

Dr. Choi was the founding president of the Korean International Statistical Society (founded in 2011) and elected as a Fellow of the American Statistical Society (ASA) in 2012 for his outstanding contributions to research and service to the profession . In 2016, he was appointed to serve in the Committee on Fellows of the ASA and chaired the committee in the last year of his term.
