Pediatric Dentistry
Child-Centered Dentistry
The Pediatric Dentistry Clinic at OHSU provides dental care for children and young adults up to age 14. Care is provided by dental students and dental residents with the supervision of dentists experienced in pediatric dental care. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that a baby's first oral exam be no later than his or her first birthday. At OHSU, dental care for infant, toddler, and preschool age children (approximate ages 6 months to 6 years) is provided by resident and faculty dentists. Faculty Pediatric Dentists have an additional two to three years of specialized training after dental school.
Our goals are to provide care the exceeds the need and expectations of our patients and families, train future leaders in pediatric dentistry and oral health sciences, and advance the frontiers of research and discovery.

A little information can go a long way to helping you with your child's oral health. Learn more about pediatric dental issues at these useful sites:
A sealant is a safe, plastic coating that is applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth – premolars and molars. This plastic resin bonds into the depressions and groves – pits and fissures – of the chewing surfaces. These pits and fissures are impossible to keep clean because the bristles of a toothbrush are too big to reach into them. Sealants, if used, could prevent up to 80% of all cavities in young molars. They are easy to apply and no drills or needles are involved.
Many insurers including the Oregon Health Plan now provide coverage for dental sealants in children. Talk to your dentist today about sealants for your child.
