Doernbecher Children’s Hospital offers the only specialty pediatric lab in Oregon and southwest Washington.

Our phlebotomy lab is staffed by skilled pediatric phlebotomists who have special training in caring for children of all ages and circumstances.

Our lab is designed with children in mind and we pride ourselves on our anxiety-free environment. The lab features child-friendly attributes, including purple and orange child-sized draw chairs and Winnie the Pooh characters on the walls. After each draw we give the child a toy of his or her choice. This helps a child overcome the negative emotion of the draw and brings positive thoughts to coming to the lab.

For patients

We are a walk-in basis lab, there is no need for an appointment. Your provider will need to contact us if they would like us to see your child. However, to be sure we have your registration and lab orders ready, feel free to call ahead. Our phone number is 503-418-5790. Your provider will be faxed the lab results. 

If the patient is new to Doernbecher/OHSU, or your contact or insurance information has changed, you may call 503-494-8505 to speak with Registration. This process generally takes 5-10 minutes.

For providers

Our fax number is 503-418-5792. You can fax us your patient’s lab order on one of your prescription pads with:

• the lab test needed
• ICD 10
• patient’s name
• birth date
• your phone, and fax number

If your patient has not been to OHSU in the past he or she will need to register. If you as a provider are not connected to OHSU, you will also need to register. When you call, they will need your clinic’s basic information. For all of this call 503-494-8505.
