Physics-based simulations to explore biology
How can mathematical modeling help reveal hidden biology? Despite vast experimental efforts to study biological processes at every scale, as a scientific community we remain unable to observe many key phenomena directly. At the tiniest scale, hidden processes include the ways molecules bind and change shape over time, providing the basis for all of biochemistry. At the cell scale, experiments cannot directly measure omics behavior over time for single cells, obscuring connections between the transcriptome, proteome, and observable cellular phenotypes and behavior.
Our lab uses physics-based simulations and combined statistical and physical analysis of experimental data to uncover hidden biology. This is an exciting time for computational biology, as we begin to see what was previously hidden.
