About me

Dr. Chen specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma and cataract. After completing a B.A degree in neuroscience and behavior from New York, she moved to the west coast and received her M.D. and completed her ophthalmology residency and glaucoma fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. She was born in Taiwan and is therefore fluent in Mandarin and Taiwanese. Due to her love for travel and other cultures she is also conversant in Spanish. During her free time she enjoys playing piano, hiking, traveling, and spending time with her family.

I thought I had gone to see her as a new patient that she was going to talk and discuss everything with me and gradually get to know me so I could trust her in the future for surgery. And it turns out it was just, it seemed like, that she was, which is, she was excellent at reviewing my charts and looking at everything and my OCT, everything, and she did a wonderful job on that. But it was like that all she was there for was to make a recommendation and not to be my doctor or not to treat me as a patient and in rushing me to surgery, I saw her, I met her for the first time and then suddenly...

Separately, Dr. Chen is very personable and always makes me feel as though she knows me -- the person, not just the patient -- even though I know she is dealing with a packed clinic schedule.
