About me

Dr. Cristian Valenzuela is a Chilean-American surgeon, born and raised in the New York City area. A desire to serve the less fortunate led him to pursue his surgical residency at a New York inner-city public hospital in Spanish Harlem. He also has a passion for basic science research, which led him to pursue laboratory projects focused on blood vessel and tissue development. After completing his general surgery residency, he sub-specialized in cancer surgery at Wake Forest University. He then joined the OHSU surgical staff, and his surgical focus primarily includes treatment of melanoma and sarcoma.

Outside of work, his hobbies include running and hiking, piano, chess and watchmaking. He is married and a father of three.

Before scheduling your appointment, we recommend you contact your insurance company to verify that the OHSU Health location or provider you plan to visit is included in your network. Your insurance company will also be able to inform you of any copayments, co–insurance, or deductibles that will be your responsibility. If you proceed in scheduling an appointment and your health insurance benefits do not participate with OHSU providers, your out of pocket liability may be higher. Visit the billing and insurance section of our site for more information.
