About me

As a medical oncologist, I specialize in diagnosing and treating patients with gastrointestinal cancers, including:

I’m involved in clinical trials that study new cancer drugs.

Outside the clinic, I take part in research on health services and policy, especially on how cancer drugs are regulated and approved in the United States.

I grew up in Taiwan and northern California before pursuing my medical education in Florida and internal medicine training in Pennsylvania. I love music, art and swing dance and take part in many community events in the Portland area. I enjoy jogging along the Willamette River and exploring the wondrous trails in the Pacific Northwest.

  8. I'm the type of person who prefers brutal honestly and assessment--do not like sugar-coating at all. Dr. Chen is always forthright and answers my questions directly. He also gives honest assessments and only explains if I request more information. As a cancer patient, I try to stay informed of my status--basically scour the internet. Interesting that there are postings there that are very scientific and meant for professionals and not laymen or patients. Still, I greatly appreciate Dr. Chen's professionalism.

  19. Dr. Chen and staff have been extremely responsive and attentive to my husband's needs during his treatment for Stage 4 gastric cancer. We live in Coos County so all visits have been virtual. Dr. Chen has advised our local cancer clinic on treatment options and worked with our local oncologists for over a year and continues to do so. This week he called us after hours to give us some very hopeful news and was obviously very happy and excited to do so. We appreciate Dr. Chen and the expertise provided by OHSU so very much. Thank you all.
