About me

As chief primary care and population health officer, Dr. Herman provides executive medical direction for primary care—across the OHSU Health system—in partnership with the Primary Care Leadership Council (PCLC) and working with OHSU partners on an aligned primary care model. One of Dr. Herman’s main responsibilities is to help create and ensure a consistent care delivery model across primary care practices with the director of primary care integration. He also promotes outstanding patient care and a joyful work environment for OHSU clinicians and staff.

Dr. Herman leads population health strategies and tactics, which includes integrating primary care providers and sub-specialists through common clinical approaches, planned population management for specialty and tertiary care, and practice integration.

Dr. Herman is a family medicine physician who practiced at the MultiCare Kent Clinic for 10 years. Dr. Herman earned his medical degree from University of Washington, and completed family practice residency in 2004 at Tacoma Family Medicine.

Prior to his career in medicine, he was an electrical engineer and Peace Corps volunteer, serving two years in The Gambia, West Africa. In his spare time, Dr. Herman enjoys astronomy, composing music, supporting his favorite sports teams, and spending quality time with his family.

Insurance

Before scheduling your appointment, we recommend you contact your insurance company to verify that the OHSU Health location or provider you plan to visit is included in your network. Your insurance company will also be able to inform you of any copayments, co–insurance, or deductibles that will be your responsibility. If you proceed in scheduling an appointment and your health insurance benefits do not participate with OHSU providers, your out of pocket liability may be higher. Visit the billing and insurance section of our site for more information.
