About me

Dr. Simpson practices medical dermatology with special interests in chronic inflammatory skin diseases and skin cancer. He is actively involved in clinical research and is currently funded by the National Institutes of Health and industry partners to study new approaches to chronic skin disease treatment and prevention.

Dr. Simpson's collaborations are global in scope and has been invited to present his research and approach to patient care at international conferences in Europe, North and South America, and Asia. He has published over 140 scientific articles in several high-impact peer-reviewed journals including the New England Journal of Medicine and The Lancet. 

As part of his commitment to lessen the burden of atopic dermatitis (eczema) worldwide, Dr. Simpson is dedicated to identifying and improving quality of care for patients with atopic dermatitis. He is the director of the Frances J. Storrs and Jon M. Hanifin CLEAR Eczema Center at OHSU. Furthermore, he supports patient advocacy by serving as the Co-Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee for the National Eczema Association.  He also serves on the Executive Committee of the Harmonizing Outcome Measures in Eczema (HOME) - a volunteer group of patients, providers, and other stakeholders whose mission is to improve the quality of eczema research to better suit the needs of patients and policy-makers.

Outside of work, Dr. Simpson enjoys spending time with his wife and children, playing squash, camping, hiking, fishing, and biking.

  1. Appt was on the appointed time. No waiting for people to show up. Doctor and assistants had knowledge of my case. They listened to my answers and answered all my questions. All were very easy to talk to.

  2. My experience with this provider was amazing. I was warmly welcomed and every effort was made to let me feel comfortable in spite of my unsightly eczema. I was greatly surprised how the doctors were not scornful of my situation and even touched the affected areas without gloves.They spent quality time with me explaining everything thoroughly. I really felt at home in their presence. This provider is a loving, caring team that I would strongly recommend without reservation.

  7. Received a very thorough body skin exam from a resident and med student followed by a review and treatment from Dr. Simpson. I really appreciate the patient care focus that I receive at OHSU and from Dr. Simpson in particular.

  16. the doctors listened to me and explained their thoughts on my ideas of what the treatment should be. the doctors took in and considered the whole picture of my history and how it could affect my treatment, this was real important to me and was assuring that an accurate prognosis was being reached.

  22. It was a pleasant interaction with both the intern and the doctor during my visit. I didn't have to wait long at all to be brought in to the exam room, everyone involved was attentive, courteous and professional. I felt listened to during the appt. and I felt comfortable with the treatment approach outlined by the intern and doctor. The appt lasted as long as necessary and didn't feel rushed or pushed through quickly for the next patient. For the unpleasant experience I'm going through it was nice to have pleasant and prepared medical help there to help find a solution to my issue.

And so that's the number one reason I visit the school or the area. The other reason is because my father had issues with Parkinson's and he received excellent care and also I find the services to be pretty efficient and convenient for me. And anyway, I'm 65.

  88. Parking was easy, minimal wait time after check-in, minimal wait time before the provider saw me, and the team spent a lot of time with me discussing, explaining and developing a plan.
