About me

Jennifer Lee Wright is a Certified Nurse Midwife with over twenty years of experience in a variety of settings.  She has clinical interests in group prenatal care, trauma informed care and contraception. The inspiration to become a midwife sparked during a medical anthropology course where she first heard of homebirth in American with midwives. While serving in the Peace Corps in the Central African Republic, local midwives shared their knowledge and art of midwifery with her.  She caught her first babe by lamp light there, in a village of 3000 with no electricity or running water.  After completing her midwifery studies at the Yale University School of Nursing, she started her career with Indian Health Service on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Jennifer has been a private practice midwife in Rapid City, South Dakota and Bend, Oregon.  While living in New Zealand for four years in a small coastal town, she gained comfort with out-of-hospital birth, homebirth and waterbirth.  The last eight years, Jennifer worked for Kaiser in Hawaii.  Today Jennifer is honored to train the next generation of midwives as a clinical Midwifery Faculty member at the OHSU School of Nursing.  Jennifer was raised in the Pacific Northwest.  A move back to Oregon is a move home.  Her twin boys, now off to college, she can turn her nurturing to her parents.  Outside of work she enjoys travel, scuba, hiking, yoga, farmers markets, forests, beach, biking and journaling.
