About me

Dr. Melissa Hershman is a highly skilled gastroenterologist whose expertise ranges across broad breadth of GI diseases and conditions. Her nursing background at the University of Pennsylvania ignited her sense of patient advocacy. With this perspective, she takes a humanistic approach to care, working closely with patients to achieve their health goals and optimize quality of life.

A favorite aspect of her role, Dr. Hershman relishes in her ability to offer cancer prevention via endoscopy and colonoscopy techniques. She works diligently to ensure procedures are executed in a confidential and compassionate manner. Dr. Hershman’s outpatient practice includes emphasis on the intricate connection between the gut and the brain. This allows her to effectively diagnose and treat a wide range of gastrointestinal disorders including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), motility disorders, functional dyspepsia, and acid related conditions, among others. Her research interests include the gut microbiome, and she specializes in fecal transplant for C. difficile infections. In addition to her clinical work, Dr Hershman is actively involved the education and training of fellows.

Dr. Hershman finds balance and personal fulfillment in spending time with her dog and children, running, gardening, and enjoying the beautiful hikes of the PNW
