We spent a whole hour talking about everything that I had questions for or he had questions for. So he was very patient with me and I really appreciated that. So I would definitely recommend him as a spine specialist to any member of my family or friends.

Well, my experience with the doctor was great. He pointed out things and told me what it meant and why it was the way it was. And I was able to understand what he had to say. And he even listened to me and what I had to say and explained what I thought and what was the going on program with what was happening to me. So I was greatly relieved to find out that it wasn't a problem at all. It was just the fact that I'm 76. I was three quarters of a century old this year at 76 trombones and a Grammy.

I really appreciated the amount of time Dr. Punsalan spent talking to me and reviewing my imaging results. This was definitely the best appointment I've had at OHSU related to this medical issue. Dr. Punsalan provided a lot of helpful advice. Most providers make suggestions for lifestyle adjustments that are simply unrealistic, which Dr. Punsalan did to some degree as well, but I got helpful information alongside that.

Dr.Punsalan was kind and generous with his time with me. However, I found it difficult to follow his explanations and descriptions of my MRI and x-ray. My questions were answered in a generalized way and not specific enough for me to fully understand exactly what his expectations were for me. I feel partly at fault for that since I could not come up with how to state my questions perhaps clearly enough. I did appreciate his time.

My experience was very poor. He did not want to listen. He thought, considering even what the other doctors told me was what was wrong, and that was my back, he said that he was the spinal surgeon, so he would know more than the doctors. And, you know, like, very - he would not listen at all. And finally, after me talking to him, he checked in my chart and realized what was going on and said it was no big deal. So, yeah, and I had been hurting really bad since we did the physical.

I was nervous about my appointment but Dr. Punsalan explained my diagnosis very thoroughly and made me feel very comfortable. I very much appreciated his taking the time to help me fully understand my back problems.

The young doctor was outstanding. I have a hard time sometimes explaining types of pain and intensity. But I could tell he understood my situation. He is a listener. Rare breed. First Doc I've meet that could tell that my three injured areas are all tied together. In the past the focus was on one injured area. It was a very good conversation. Dr. Punsalan steps out beyond being a clinician which is excellent. He asked many questions before concluding what ailed me and then offered that at almost 85 I may be expecting an unrealistic result, saying that surgery would only be necessary as an extreme solution. He told me what is realistic to expect and how I should go about achieving that... to adopt a walking routine and not try lifting heavy stuff. That made sense and I didn't mind being told what reality is for me, even though I probably wanted to hear that he could make me as good as new. I now feel at ease knowing I can contact him in the future as necessary.

Dr Punsalan was very professional and knowledgeable about the spine. He spent quite amount of time with me explaining about the spine and aging. He shared a study that helped in his explanations. The Dr looked at my MRI and was able to show me all the parts of the film and explain what he was seeing. I felt that he is an expert on the spine and what works and what doesn't. He gave me a few suggestions as to where I go from here. I felt he cared about my care. He said I could call or meet with him for the next three years. Even thou I was disappointed there is no fix for me, he did give me confidence that I can help myself by certain things he suggested. I feel I can call him any time to help me.

Appointment - took a long time to get an appointment. Once I got an appointment it was on time, and everyone was very courteous. The doctor was very helpful, but I always have a difficult time when there are set rules based on only one statistic and not looking at your overall health. Plus, it would be nice if this information was published somewhere so people could know this prior to the 8-week waiting period (waiting to get in for an appointment). That way one can either change where they go or start making adjustments to their lifestyle.
