About me

I’m a surgeon with a passion for:

  • Hernia repair
  • Restoring the abdominal wall after tumor removal or if an incisional hernia (a hernia at the site of a surgical cut) develops

I commonly help with hernia repair and abdominal wall reconstruction during tumor surgery. I repair many types of parastomal hernias. Some cancer patients develop these if they have a surgical procedure that creates an opening, or stoma, in their abdomen.

I am director of OHSU’s Hernia and Abdominal Wall Center. I have advanced training in:

  • Abdominal wall reconstruction for large and complex hernias
  • Minimally invasive surgery and robotic surgery
  • Inguinal hernia (groin hernia) repair

I also provide other general surgery needs.

My research interests include:

  • Improving hernia surgery outcomes
  • Evaluating prosthetic mesh for hernia repair
  • Minimally invasive surgery for hernia repair

I grew up in Colorado and did most of my medical and surgical training on the East Coast. I joined OHSU in 2014.

Insurance

Before scheduling your appointment, we recommend you contact your insurance company to verify that the OHSU Health location or provider you plan to visit is included in your network. Your insurance company will also be able to inform you of any copayments, co–insurance, or deductibles that will be your responsibility. If you proceed in scheduling an appointment and your health insurance benefits do not participate with OHSU providers, your out of pocket liability may be higher. Visit the billing and insurance section of our site for more information.
