Cassondra Sue Richard, RN, CEN, TCRN
I graduated nursing school in 1999 and was one of 3 new grad nurses hired in the OHSU ED’s inaugural new grad class. I had previously worked as an EMT with a volunteer ambulance service and as a CNA in the OHSU ED. Trauma has always been my first love. Throughout the course of my career at OHSU the trauma bays were my favorite place to work.
I retired from there in 2022 and now work part time at Legacy Silverton Medical Center which is a 29-bed hospital with a 12 bed ED. No specialty services, lots of transfer patients. It’s a whole different world and a lot of fun. Just the change I needed at this point in my career.
I have been an active member of the Emergency Nurses Association since I started nursing. I enjoy teaching TNCC and ENPC courses and am currently faculty for both classes. I am also the Oregon state chair for the TNCC courses.
I have 3 lovely, adult daughters who live and work in Portland. My fun pastime has been riding and showing my Arabian horse since I was 8 years old. That changed this year when I sold him and changed course to tick off my bucket list items. My first adventure will be an 8 day “luxury” vacation to Tanzania and the Serengeti in Africa for 2024.
