Fetal Care Information for Health Care Professionals

Dr. Stephanie Dukhovny, a maternal-fetal medicine specialist, is part of our team of experts. Our team welcomes the chance to partner with community providers.

The Fetal Care Program at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital works closely with community providers to give patients the best care possible. If your patient has a high-risk pregnancy, we will partner with you and your patient to develop a treatment and delivery plan.

How to refer a patient

For urgent referrals call 503-418-4300 to speak with our fetal surgery nurse coordinator.

For all other patients, fax a referral form to  503-346-8215.

Please use our referral form and include:

  • Patient’s full name, DOB, telephone number, address and insurance information
  • If an interpreter is needed
  • Timeframe in which you would like the patient seen
  • Referring maternal-fetal medicine specialist’s name, phone and fax so that we may contact you if additional information is needed
  • Primary obstetrical provider’s name, phone and fax so that we may communicate with them during our care
  • Suspected diagnosis and/or reason for referral
  • ALL relevant clinical documents
  • Ultrasound reports
  • Maternal-fetal medicine notes
  • Obstetric clinic notes and lab results
  • Genetic counseling notes, pedigree and test results

A nurse coordinator will review your referral and call your patient to schedule.

Urgent referrals: We will call your patient the same day we receive the referral and schedule an appointment the next day, if possible.

All other referrals: We will call your patient within two days. We do our best to schedule all patients as soon as possible.

Clinic visits take place at our main campus on Marquam Hill. We are located in the Center for Women’s Health and are directly connected to the OHSU Hospital and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. We can quickly triage and respond to any concerns during your patient’s visit with us.

  • Tests: Your patient’s visit will begin with a comprehensive review of records and a workup. Tests will include imaging studies such as ultrasound, echocardiography and MRI.
  • Care plan: We’ll share the findings with you and map a care plan with your patient.
  • Keeping you informed: As the primary provider, you will receive our notes and care plan within two business days of your patient’s visit. We will work closely with you and your patient to plan a delivery that best meets your patient’s needs. For example, we strive to keep families as close to home as possible, transferring patients to OHSU only when medically necessary.
  • Personal care: Our care coordinator, a registered nurse, helps families throughout pregnancy. In addition, if we recommend delivery at OHSU, your patient will get a chance to tour our facilities and meet our postnatal and pediatric specialists.
