What makes us different
Pioneering innovations: Through his work on Gleevec, Dr. Druker launched the field of targeted therapy and precision cancer medicine. Targeted therapy homes in on cancer at the molecular level, leaving healthy cells mostly unharmed. Our researchers also helped develop CAR T-cell therapy. This innovative immunotherapy modifies a patient’s own blood cells to fight types of leukemia and lymphoma.
National recognition: We’ve earned the National Cancer Institute’s top designation for leadership in research.
Leadership: Dr. Druker and OHSU’s Jeff Tyner, Ph.D., have joined the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in Beat AML. This national effort, in cooperation with universities across the U.S., aims to develop new treatments for acute myeloid leukemia.
Advanced training: All our doctors completed fellowships, adding at least a year of hands-on training in blood disorders, cancer and other related specialties. Nurses in our stem cell transplant and intensive care units are specially trained to meet your needs.
Complete care
A team focused on your needs: Our specialists meet frequently to go over treatment options patient by patient. You benefit from the full team’s expertise. We consider every option, including clinical trials, when developing your treatment recommendations.
Experts in your specific illness: Our doctors work in groups that focus on subtypes of leukemia, lymphoma and other blood disorders. You benefit from their unmatched knowledge of the treatments likely to work best for your specific condition.
Convenience: Our nurse coordinators arrange your appointments and answer questions so you can focus on your care. We also offer services at our central Portland campuses, at Portland-area community clinics, and in central and southern Oregon.
Clinical trials and research
Clinical trials: The Knight Cancer Institute leads hundreds of clinical trials to test better ways to prevent, detect, diagnose and treat cancer. Your care team will discuss whether one of these studies is right for you.
