What is Diabetes Education?
Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) is a program that teaches you how to manage and stay healthy with diabetes. The program is led by a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES). A CDCES is also known as a diabetes educator. Diabetes educators will help you meet your personal diabetes and health goals by talking about the following topics:
DSMES is not a “one size fits all” model. You decide what to talk about with your diabetes educator and a plan will be made just for you.

*For patients 18 and older: you do NOT need to be seen by a doctor in our clinic
*For patients under 18: you must be seen by a doctor in our clinic
- 1-on-1 visits
- Group visits –for adults with type 2 diabetes only. Click here to learn more.
- 1-on-1 visits can be as short as 30 min or as long as 3 hours
- Group classes are 2-2.5 hours each
DSMES visits are covered by most insurance plans.
