Presidential Search Committee

OHSU’s board of directors has named members to the OHSU Presidential Search Committee.

The committee — announced on Dec. 20, 2024 — will conduct a national search for OHSU’s next president. The new leader will take the reins from Interim President Steve Stadum. Stadum replaced Dr. Danny Jacobs, who announced in October 2024 that he would step down.

The board of directors has chosen the executive search firm Spencer Stuart to lead the effort. The search committee will hold a kickoff meeting in late January 2025.

The 25-member committee is made up of leaders from across OHSU’s missions of health care, research and education; from community organizations; and from labor unions.

Susan King, a member of OHSU’s board of directors, will serve as the committee chair. “I am honored to lead this committee of exemplary physicians, scientists, nurses, faculty, labor partners and community members in finding the next president of OHSU,” King said Dec. 20.

“This appointment will be a transformational moment for OHSU, and we are all dedicated to finding the person with the experience and skills needed to lead OHSU to its brightest future.”

Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek submitted four names of committee members from outside Portland with backgrounds in behavioral health, academia and public service.

“OHSU’s success is critical to our entire state,” Kotek said Dec. 20. “I believe that these appointments will bring the right set of perspectives, expertise in health care, mental health, business and higher education, and geographic diversity necessary to advance the best possible candidate to serve as the institution’s next president.”

Chad Paulson, OHSU board chair, called choosing the next president "the single most important role” of the board. “We have convened a group of individuals who represent a broad array of the university’s interests, and we are grateful for their willingness to serve in this capacity,” he said Dec. 20.
