Charles Springer

Biography: Charles Springer is Professor in the Advanced Imaging Research Center (AIRC) at OHSU and has >35 yrs. experience in in vivo MR research and >50 yrs. experience in MR science. He was founding Director of the OHSU AIRC, and before that founding Director of the High-Field MRI Laboratory in the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) Chemistry Department. He was a member of the Stony Brook Chemistry faculty for 35 years [the last 10 also on the BNL Chemistry faculty.] Springer held Visiting Professorships at CalTech and Harvard. The citations in his Scientific Narrative are selected from over 110 peer-reviewed publications, averaging about 45 citations and 11 pages each. Professor Springer enjoyed continual NIH RO1 support, as P.I., for 30 years [among the several RO1 Grants, one ran for 27 years, and another for 13 years], NSF support from 1976 to 1992, and DOE support from 1994 to 2002. He has received the U.S. Air Force Research and Development Award, the Brookhaven National Laboratory Science and Technology Award, the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine [ISMRM] Outstanding Teacher Award, is a Fellow of the ISMRM, and chaired the In Vivo Magnetic Resonance Gordon Research Conference. Springer has served on the ISMRM Board of Trustees and serves on the Editorial Board on NMR in Biomedicine.
