The 7MP has multi-photon excitation and an upright imaging stand that allows for intravital imaging in live rodents. Multi-photon microscopy allows for deeper penetration of thick tissues because of the long wavelength of the excitation laser. Multi-photon microscopy also has inherent optical sectioning because of the rarity of multi-photon excitation events.

This system will be replaced by a new multi-photon laser scanning microscope in September 2022.
