Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship

The OHSU Knight Cardiovascular Institute (KCVI) integrates research, education and patient care related to cardiovascular disease throughout a person’s lifetime — from conception through the end-of-life. We strive to advance care for patients at all life stages. This is fueled by cutting-edge research and training of the cardiovascular specialists of tomorrow. The KCVI offers 5 ACGME-accredited and 3 non-ACGME-accredited fellowship programs.
The Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at the KCVI aims to train outstanding clinicians in the field of cardiovascular medicine, to nurture interest in scientific investigation, and to help trainees reach their ultimate career goals in cardiology practice. It is one of a number of fellowships offered as part of our T32 research training program. Our faculty and staff are clinician-educators and scientists dedicated to the task of training tomorrow's cardiologists.
The educational program is based on curriculum, mentorship and experiences in a variety of settings including:
- Inpatient cardiovascular services
- Outpatient cardiovascular practice
- Clinical laboratory and procedure-based services
- Conferences
- Research laboratory
Although the cardiovascular fellowship is a three-year accredited program, a four-year curriculum that includes expanded research activities is encouraged as part of our goal of training clinician-scientists for successful careers in academic medicine. We also offer sub-specialty fellowships.
The clinical activities are performed at OHSU Hospital and the VA Medical Center which are located on the same campus. The curriculum includes core rotations and electives. For each rotation, the learning objectives and expectations based on ACGME competencies are provided.
There are many basic science, translational and clinical research opportunities at the OHSU Knight Cardiovascular Institute related to cardiology. Our faculty includes superb mentors who are recognized internationally for their research and teaching accomplishments.
