Surgery Team
Heart surgery is safer at OHSU because we surround you with a team of experts every step of the way. As part of Oregon’s only comprehensive heart program, we offer a full range of care. Our providers are:
- National leaders in their fields. This includes leadership roles with the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and other professional organizations that focus on patient safety and education.
- Part of OHSU’s tradition of innovation. Among other advances, our surgeons were the first in the world to pioneer minimally invasive heart valve techniques.
- Leaders in national research studies. Through these clinical trials we can offer you the latest treatments and techniques.
Meet the director
Dr. Howard Song, OHSU’s chief of cardiothoracic surgery, leads our team of heart surgery experts. He is passionate about finding the least invasive ways to treat your heart condition.
Dr. Song does extensive research to make sure his team offers the most effective ways to help you feel better and live longer. He loves hearing about everything his patients can do after heart surgery: Keep up with their families. Do chores. Yard work. Hike. Talk without being short of breath. These stories motivate him and his team to provide world-class care.
