Swabs:
• Aptima Multitest collection kit for vaginal, rectal, throat, or penile sources.
• Aptima Unisex collection kit for endocervical or male urethral sources.
Swabs are stable for 60 days at room temperature, 12 months frozen.
Urine: 2 mL to 10 mL
Transfer urine to an Aptima tube within 24 hours, room temperature. Once the urine is in an Aptima tube, it is stable for 30 days at room temperature or 12 months frozen.

OHSU Clinical Laboratory Recommendations Regarding Self-collected GU Specimens used in Aptima NAAT for CT/NG and Bacterial vaginosis:
1. Cases are not involved in legal investigations.
2. Patients age: 15 to 65 years.
3. Patients who have been assessed for both physical and cognitive abilities, as well as language accessibility to written instructions.
4. Anatomic sites: 1) vaginal swabs, 2) first void or “dirty” urine, and 3) penile meatus (Warning: self-collection does not include throat and rectal swabs).
