Detection of Methadone and EDDP (Methadone metabolite)

Turnaround Time:

7 Days

Test Schedule:

Twice per week

Units:

ng/mL

Specimen Requirements:

1 mL (100 microliters minimum) urine in sample cup. Stable 3 days ambient, 14 days refrigerated, 14 days frozen.

Pediatric Specimen Requirements:

0.5 mL urine in sample cup. Stable 3 days ambient, 14 days refrigerated, 14 days frozen.

Comments:

Confirmation Cut-off:
Methadone by LS-MS: greater than 50 ng/mL
EDDP: positive if greater than 50 ng/mL

A positive methadone in the absence of metabolite suggests external addition of methadone to the urine.
Methadone ingestion is confirmed when both methadone and methadone metabolite (EDDP) are detected.
Identification of specific drug(s) taken by specimen donor is problematic due to common metabolites, some of which are prescription drugs themselves. The absence of expected drug(s) and/or drug metabolite(s) may indicate non-compliance, inappropriate timing of specimen collection relative to drug administration, poor drug absorption, diluted/adulterated urine, or limitations of testing. A very small amount of an unexpected drug analyte in the presence of a large amount of an expected drug analyte may reflect pharmaceutical impurity. Interpretive questions should be directed to the laboratory.
Results confirmed by mass spectroscopy. This is a lab-developed test not evaluated by the FDA. These results are for clinical use only.
