2024 Oregon Bioengineering Symposium

The Sixth Annual 2024 Oregon Bioengineering Symposium brought together students, researchers, practitioners, and industry leaders in Oregon to discuss the latest innovations in biomedical engineering. This year's symposium included:
- Keynote speaker Dr. David Huang, M.D., Ph.D., 2023 awardee of the National Medal of Technology and Innovation
- A tour of the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute Precision Biofabrication Hub with Director Luiz E. Bertassoni, D.D.S., Ph.D.

- Clinical and research talks sharing knowledge and inspiring new ideas

This symposium marks six years of collaboration between Oregon Health & Science University, Oregon State University, and the University of Oregon, bringing together scientists, clinicians, and industry partners from across the state to engage over research advancements in the field of bioengineering. We are grateful for this continued partnership with an event that showcases the outstanding achievements and impact of bioengineering research in Oregon.

The top-scoring presenters from Excellence in Research Award, Best Lightning Talk, and Best Poster, were selected from over 130 abstracts submitted by students or trainees.
- Excellence in Research Award: Xun Yu (UO) and Ander Switalla (UO)
- Best Lightning Talk: Rachel Thompson (OSU) and Kenneth Riley (OHSU)
- Best Poster: Makena Phillips (OHSU) and Nicholas Pancheri (UO)

Keynote Speaker: Dr. David Huang, M.D., Ph.D.
The Oregon Bioengineering Symposium welcomed Dr. David Huang, M.D., Ph.D., Wold Family Endowed Chair in Ophthalmic Imaging and Professor of Biomedical Engineering at OHSU, as its 2024 keynote speaker. Dr. Huang was awarded the National Medal of Technology and Innovation in 2023 by President Biden along with two collaborators for inventing optical coherence tomography (OCT). He is Associate Director and Director of Research at Casey Eye Institute at OHSU and leads the Center for Ophthalmic Optics and Lasers (www.COOLLab.net) centered at Casey Eye.
