Comments:

This test is run on specimens positive for the cryptococcus screening test. A CSF titer of greater than 1:8 in patients with meningitis strongly suggests infection with Cryptococcus neoformans. Titers of 1:4 or less are presumptive and additional serologic follow up is strongly recommended. A negative test does not rule out Cryptococcal meningitis. A culture should be performed to confirm the diagnosis regardless of titer.
