Inpatient Adult Pain Service (APS)
The Inpatient Adult Pain Service (APS) is comprised of attending, fellow and resident physicians as well as nurse practitioners who have experience managing acute and chronic pain conditions. Our physician members are anesthesiologists who have completed a pain medicine or regional anesthesia fellowship. Our team is trained to diagnose and manage pain arising from a variety of conditions including cancer, musculoskeletal disorders and neurological diseases as well as pain resulting from trauma or surgeries.
Examples of the services that our team provides include medication management, placement and management of epidural and nerve blocks, and management of intrathecal analgesia. We work closely with your inpatient primary care service, medical and surgical teams. Our services are available 24/7 during weekdays, weekends and holidays. Our team approach allows for a comprehensive care throughout your hospital experience.
The APS team has a tight connection with the Comprehensive Pain Center (CPC). Your CPC provider may refer you to the APS team while you are in the hospital. This will help assure adequate pain management at the time of your hospital admission, for surgery or for any other medical reason. If after hospital discharge you have an ongoing pain condition requiring management by a specialist, a follow-up at CPC can be made on your behalf.
