Amanda B. Braley, M.S. (she/her)
- Research Project Coordinator for the Knight Scholars Program, OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, School of Medicine
Biography
Ms. Amanda Braley manages the Knight Scholars program as part of an interdisciplinary team. The Knight Scholars program is an NIH-grant funded initiative through OHSU’s Knight Cancer Institute that trains high school students from underserved communities across the state of Oregon in cancer research. Students shadow professionals in clinical, public health, and outreach environments in their home region. Students then develop and participate in a research project under the guidance of a research mentor and Knight Scholars staff. Amanda's role includes aligning partnerships, arranging programmatic details for student research training, supervising students (minors), overseeing mentors (undergraduates) assigned to the Knight Scholars, and coordinating all aspects of the program.
Amanda has over 25 years of experience working as a biologist and teaching science in higher education. She is passionate about giving students authentic introductions to the fundamentals of scientific research, no matter their age. When not working with undergraduate or high school aged scientists, Amanda can be found volunteering at youth science events, such as FIRST Lego League.
