Biography
Dr. Bradley Petek is a cardiologist who specializes in the care of athletes with cardiovascular conditions or symptoms suggestive of possible cardiovascular disease (chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting, dizziness, decreased exercise performance). He trained at one of the only sports cardiology fellowships in the country at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard University. He serves as a sports cardiologist for numerous teams/organizations throughout the state of Oregon including the Portland Trailblazers, Oregon State Beavers, University of Portland Pilots, Portland State Vikings, Portland Winterhawks, Rip City Remix and the Portland Fire Department (Portland Fire & Rescue).
Dr. Petek cares for a wide array of cardiovascular conditions in athletes including coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction (heart attacks), arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms), inherited cardiomyopathies (e.g., hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy), aortopathies (dilated aortas), sudden cardiac arrest, pericardial disease, myocarditis and those with cardiovascular risk factors.
He focuses on providing exercise prescriptions among athletes with cardiovascular conditions and prescribes medications and procedures if indicated. He also has expertise in interpretation of cardiopulmonary exercise testing and noninvasive cardiovascular imaging, including echocardiography.
His goal is to get athletes safely back to exercise. As an athlete himself, he places a strong emphasis on the importance of exercise participation and performance.
In his spare time, he enjoys running, cycling, basketball, hiking and traveling.
