Carol Holm, D.N.P., RN, NEA-BC

Biography

Carol Holm has held formal nursing leadership positions for more than 18 years in multiple departments, including telemetry, critical care, observation, geriatric psychiatry, case management, acute care and chaplain services. As nurse manager of neurosciences, head and neck surgery and the acute care float pool on OHSU’s main campus, she built a strong foundation for her most recent leadership role as interim chief nursing officer (CNO) at OHSU Hillsboro Medical Center.

Her leadership and involvement on hospital committees further support her ability to understand and share knowledge related to health care operations and leadership. Throughout her hospital-based career, she has taught classes and given educational presentations to nurses and providers. She has a strong track record in regulatory and financial oversight, performance management and driving accountability through motivation. A skilled communicator and leader, she has the flexibility and experience to adapt to changing demands and shifting priorities. Energy, enthusiasm and a collaborative, positive spirit have been key to her success. She is well prepared to mentor and develop future health care leaders.

During her doctoral program, Carol’s research focused on identifying the emotional intelligence attributes nurses most want in their leaders. She surveyed more than 1,500 inpatient nurses, who identified adaptability, stress management, empathy and assertiveness as the top qualities they seek. She strives to cultivate these traits in the leaders she mentors.

Carol earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice with a focus on health systems and organizational leadership from the OHSU School of Nursing. She holds a Master of Science in nursing.
