Biography
Dr. Castigliano M Bhamidipati is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, OHSU School of Medicine. He has particular interest and expertise in managing adults with congenital heart disease and those who need complex aortic surgery. His practice includes the management of patients with connective tissue disorders and bicuspid aortic valve aortopathy. He has had extensive mentorship and training in the Ross procedure. He also performs surgery for patients with other cardiovascular diseases, including coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease. Dr. Bhamidipati serves as a Quality Medical Director for the KCVI Heart Institute and focuses his academic time on improving cardiovascular outcomes.
Dr. Bhamidipati was raised in India and moved to Virginia as a teenager. After earning his bachelor's degree, he went on to serve as a firefighter-paramedic and was on the tactical rescue team for several years. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic medicine degree from the University of New England, and later completed Master of Science (Clinical Investigation) and Ph.D. (Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics) degrees at the University of Virginia. He completed residencies in general surgery at The State University of New York Upstate Medical University and in cardiothoracic surgery at University of Washington. After joining OHSU, Dr. Bhamidipati collaborated with his pediatric congenital cardiac surgery partners at Doernbecher Children's Hospital to develop a multidisciplinary adult congenital cardiac team and is the surgical director for the adults with congenital heart disease program. Dr. Bhamidipati is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons, and the American College of Cardiology.
