Biography

Daniel B. Nelson, MD, MPP is a primary care internal medicine physician and assistant professor of medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University. Dr. Nelson's research centers on health insurance coverage for low income and vulnerable populations in the United States, with a special focus on the administrative burdens faced by those eligible for Medicaid.

Dr. Nelson received a bachelor in science degree in microbiology from Brigham Young University. He received a medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School and a masters' degree in public policy from the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government. After completing clinical training in the Brigham and Women's Hospital/Atrius Health primary care internal medicine residency program, he was a general internal medicine fellow in the Department of Population Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is board certified in internal medicine.

He says of his approach to patient care: "I enjoy developing relationships with patients over time. I sincerely appreciate them welcoming me—in a small way—into their lives to help care for their health."

Outside of work, Dr. Nelson says: "I love eating delicious food, rock climbing, backpacking, supporting Manchester United, or generally doing anything with my family."
