Biography

Erica L. Smith-Cohen is a nurse practitioner who joins the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine after practicing in a variety of critical care settings as both a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Provider since 2008. Her primary background is in surgical, neurologic and trauma critical care. She was also fortunate to work in the Division of Infectious Diseases collaborating on APP role development within their department.

Her interests include neurologic outcomes following cardiac arrest or trauma, sepsis, infectious diseases and care of medically vulnerable populations. Her academic focus is on practical application of clinical research and development of formal post-graduate APP education. She completed a graduate thesis exploring RN comfort with withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment across varying ICU settings and served as a student member on the Yale-New Haven Hospital Medical Ethics Committee.

Erica lives in Beaverton with her husband and their two young children and enjoys yoga, trips to the OR coast, wine-tasting and getting lost in a good book.
