Biography
Dr. Heather Sidener, DVM serves as the unit head for the Clinical Medicine Unit within the Division of Comparative Medicine at ONPRC. As unit head, Dr. Sidener administers and coordinates the clinical care for all primates enrolled in research at the West Campus, and to do so, she manages a team of 5 veterinarians, a unit manager, 13 certified veterinary technicians and 3 medication technicians. Dr. Sidener herself serves as the primary clinical veterinarian for the Department of Reproductive and Developmental Sciences. Her department handles hundreds of IACUC protocol reviews each year, counsels investigators on best practices for primate care during research trials, and along with others in DCM, is responsible for training investigators and their teams for various clinical procedures. Dr. Sidener serves as an alternate member of the main campus IACUC committee and as a subject matter expert for the west campus IACUC, and helps teach and train ONPRC's lab animal medicine residents, visiting veterinary students, staff seeking AALAS certification, and others about lab animal research, primate medicine and regulatory requirements.
