Biography

Lauren Drew Martin, D.V.M, DACLAM is the Associate Director of Animal Resources & Research Support (ARRS) at the Oregon National Primate Research Center on OHSU’s West Campus. Dr. Martin is also Head of the Small Laboratory Animal Unit (SLAU) on West Campus as well as Director of the Time-Mated Breeding Program. The ARRS on OHSU’s West Campus provides exemplary animal care in the service of essential biomedical research, 24-7-365. ARRS’s dedicated staff oversee a colony of over 5,000 nonhuman primates including rhesus, cynomolgus and Japanese macaques, baboons and squirrel monkeys. SLAU provides excellent small laboratory animal care and research support for small vivarium of mice, rats, rabbits and guinea pigs.
Dr. Martin’s clinical and research interests include development of nonhuman primate (NHP) and small mammal surgical models, NHP neonatal critical care, anesthesia and analgesia protocol development and evaluation of the effects of anesthetics on high risk populations including obese NHPs, pregnant dams and neonates.
Dr. Martin feels very lucky to work with a diverse and fiercely intelligent force of researchers and animal care professionals at the West Campus.  Every day she is able to utilize her veterinary education and experience to advance human and animal health by supporting the cutting edge science researchers conduct at the ONPRC. She thrives on being an advocate for animal welfare as well as an integral component of scientific progress.
Dr. Martin joined OHSU and the ONPRC in 2007 for a Primate Medicine & Surgery Internship and continued on as a surgical veterinarian following its completion. She became board certified in laboratory animal medicine in 2014.
