Biography

Dr. Myatt was born and raised in Yorkshire, England and received both his BSc and PhD from the University of London, UK. He moved to Oregon in 2015 having previously been a faculty member at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, and at the University of Cincinnati, where he was Director of the NIH-funded Physician Scientist Training Program (MD/PhD) and the Women’s Reproductive Health Research Scholars Program. Dr. Myatt served as Editor of the journal Placenta (1997 to 2004), President of the Perinatal Research Society (1997), President of the International Federation of Placenta Associations (2002 to 2004) and President of the Society for Gynecologic Investigation (2009 to 2010).

He is internationally known for his research which applies basic science approaches to clinical problems in perinatology, including preeclampsia, preterm birth and gestational diabetes. His research interests include prediction of adverse pregnancy outcomes, the role of obesity, gestational diabetes and sexual dimorphism in placental metabolism and function and fetal programming, the use of nanotechnology to locate and treat ectopic pregnancy and the regulation of prostaglandin synthesis and action in intrauterine tissues at parturition. He has published over 300 papers and 400 abstracts and has served on many review panels and study sections for NIH, CIHR and other international grant giving bodies. Dr Myatt is also Principal Investigator of the Global Pregnancy Collaboration (CoLab), which works with maternal and fetal medicine researchers around the globe to facilitate research addressing adverse pregnancy outcomes. In addition he is very active as a mentor currently being Principal Investigator of the Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) Program at OHSU and serving on the national NIH-funded Reproductive Scientist Development Program (RSDP) Selection Committee and the SMFM/AAOGF Scholarly Activities Committee.

He was elected as a Fellow (ad eundem) of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2013 for his contributions to women’s health research and has been honored with the Naftolin Award for Mentorship, the Distinguished Scientist Award and the DeCherney Society Lifetime Distinguished Service Award of the Society for Reproductive Investigation and the Senior Award in Placentology by the International Federation of Placenta Associations.

His passions in life are his family, mentorship and soccer. Memorable moments include meeting his wife, helicopter skiing and being embraced by Stevie Wonder!
