Mark Wang, M.S. (he/him)
- Computational Biologist 1, CEDAR, OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, School of Medicine
Biography
Mark earned his master’s degree in biomedical engineering from Columbia University in 2023. For his thesis, he and his colleagues developed a machine learning-powered software that rapidly quantifies contractile function and calcium handling in in vitro cardiac models. This software enables robust characterization of cardiac diseases and cardioactive drugs.
He completed his bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2021, with a focus on software engineering and UI design.
Before joining CEDAR, Mark spent a year working in Dr. Young Hwan Chang’s lab at KCRB. There, he specialized in applying computational methods to cancer multiplex tissue imaging (MTI) datasets. One of his notable achievements was developing a novel MTI normalization method, significantly improving the accuracy and quality of downstream analyses, including cell phenotyping and machine learning applications.
Outside of work, Mark enjoys music, playing guitar, cooking, and exploring Oregon’s beautiful hiking trails. He is excited to be part of the CEDAR team and looks forward to contributing to the mission of ending cancer.
