Biography

Dr. Michael Regner is an adult and pediatric neuroradiologist who joined the OHSU Neuroradiology Section in 2021 as Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology, School of Medicine.  He completed undergraduate and medical school at the University of Wisconsin−Madison as a member of the Medical Scholars Program.  He completed internship in internal medicine and residency in diagnostic radiology at the University of Colorado−Denver, where he pursued graduate studies in advanced neuroimaging techniques including quantitative morphometry and fMRI.  Dr. Regner completed a two-year neuroradiology fellowship at the University of California−San Francisco (UCSF) and San Francisco VA Medical Center, where he also served as attending Clinical Instructor for one year.  At UCSF, his second year of fellowship focused on pediatric neuroradiology, fetal MRI, and advanced CT-guided spine procedures.

Dr. Regner is active in the missions of clinical patient care, education, and research.  He serves as OHSU Director of MRI, working to adapt the latest MRI techniques for routine clinical use and oversees safety in the MRI department.  Dr. Regner serves as OHSU Director of Fetal Neuroradiology, overseeing clinical fetal MRI of the brain, spine, head and neck and works closely with the OHSU Fetal Care Program.  He is a passionate educator of learners at all levels from medical students to fellows, and was recognized by the OHSU Radiology Residency as “Outstanding Teacher of the Year” in 2023 and “Board Reviewer of the Year” in 2024.  His clinical scientist experience spans numerous clinical and basic science investigations including laryngeal anatomy, phonation, brain morphometry, functional neuroimaging, presurgical mapping, psychiatric illness, and sex disparities within neuroimaging research.  Dr. Regner’s current interests include fetal brain and spine development, congenital malformations, and perfusion imaging of the brain, head, and neck using ferumoxytol iron nanoparticles.

Dr. Regner is board-certified by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) in Diagnostic Radiology with subspecialty board-certification in Neuroradiology, and Magnetic Resonance Safety Certified by the American Board of Magnetic Resonance Safety (ABMRS) as MR Medical Director (MRMD).  He is licensed to practice medicine in the states of Oregon and California, and holds attending faculty positions at OHSU Hospital and Clinics, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, and Portland VA Medical Center.
