Biography
Paul W. Flint, M.D., is a surgeon who provides care for:
- Benign and malignant diseases of the airway
- Breathing, voice and swallowing conditions
- Parkinson’s Disease and movement disorders affecting the head and neck, including dystonia
Dr. Flint was the chair of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery (Ear, Nose, and Throat) at Oregon Health & Science University until 2024.
Dr. Flint’s research interests include:
- Changes with injuries to the larynx (voice box)
- Using prosthetic materials for implants in patients with paralyzed vocal cords
- Using micro-robotics for larynx surgery
He is a founding member of the Society for Airway Management and an active member of:
- The Triological Society
- The American Laryngological Association — past president and council member
- The Society of University Otolaryngologists — past council member
- The American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery
- The American College of Surgeons
He is the senior editor of the eighth edition of Cummings Otolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery, considered the defining textbook for the specialty.
Dr. Flint received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his residency training at the University of Washington, where he was an associate professor for two years. He was on the faculty at Johns Hopkins University for 18 years, serving as residency training program director and the inaugural Charles W. Cummings Professor of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery.
