P. Holland Alday, M.D., Ph.D

  • Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, School of Medicine
  • VA Portland Health Care System

Biography

Dr. Alday is interested in the development of new drugs for parasitic infections. His current work focuses on advancing several compounds identified as having nanomolar activity against Toxoplasma gondii in a screen of the Global Health Chemical Diversity Library. This screen identified over 70 such hit compounds, and he is currently engaged in mechanistic and in vivo studies to identify the most promising early leads from these hits. He also works with Stone Doggett, MD and Mike Riscoe, PhD, on the development of endochin-like quinolones (ELQs), which are extremely potent inhibitors of T. gondii, Plasmodium spp and Babesia spp both in vitro and in vivo.
