Rumel Mahmood
Biography
Rumel is a Senior Research Scientist with an extensive background in health informatics, social and policy science, and statistical and computational methodologies. Most recently, he served as an Epic certified data analyst for a Harvard teaching hospital for nearly a decade, where he created ad-hoc and automated quality metrics and reports; updated hundreds of metrics on a monthly basis for internal and external reporting; and created automated EHR transfers to state agencies and ACO partners. His specialties included primary care, behavioral health integration with primary care, social determinants of health screenings, and racial, ethnic, and linguistic demographic data collection. Rumel helped identify and collate pertinent EHR data that could be utilized in exploring cancer screening determinants, and also served as the primary biostatistician for this research and other research projects. His dissertation in Public Policy from UMass-Boston used historical methods, social science, and biostatistics to examine hospital cultural competence and disparities. Rumel also has a Masters from Washington University in St. Louis, a Bachelor's degree in Government and Politics and a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park. Rumel's interests are in large healthcare datasets, health equity, and machine learning fairness and governance.
