Biography

Sheri Hamilton is a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern (LPCintern) at OHSU Avel Gordly Center for Healing. She provides culturally-responsive services to African-American clients seeking mental health treatment. She takes a holistic (mind and body) approach in mental health care as she helps clients define goals, plan of action and gain insight regarding their strengths and possible barriers that could interupt the client's path to wellness. In her clinical practice although Sheri uses an eclectic approach of therapy with her clients, she specializes in cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) as she helps clients identify and evaluate their automatic thoughts, to correct their thinking to closely resemble reality. Cognitive behavior therapy informs the client to challenge and modify their old thinking patterns to create a newer way of thinking that decreases distress and promotes healthier thinking.

Outside her clinical duties Sheri enjoys reading, jazz music, movies, outdoors at the beach, travelling and spending quaility time with her 11 grandchildren.
