V.L. Martinez (they/them)
- Admissions Counselor, School of Nursing
Biography
V.L. is a first-generation, queer, and genderfluid chicanx born in ancestral Chumash land in the California area and currently resides in ancestral Cowlitz land in the Portland area with their dog, Angel Monster. You can often find V.L. and Angel going for a stroll around the fountain on the Marquam Hill Portland campus! V.L. proudly graduated from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa in 2018 with a double major in women's studies and American studies and a certificate in Spanish. As a first-generation and elder-sibling student, they understand the difficulty in navigating the higher education system and hope to support students in feeling empowered to take agency of their academic experience.
V.L. has been working in the OHSU SoN Admissions Office since 2019. You can typically find them working on the 3rd floor at the School of Nursing on Mondays and Tuesdays and working from home Wednesday-Friday. Say hi to V.L. if you see them around and don't hesitate to reach out and ask questions-- if they don't know the answer, they'll find out who does!
In their free time, V.L. loves to knit, sit in the sun, play with their dog, Angel, and swim or float in bodies of water.
