Biography
A urologist by training, Dr. Xie has dedicated his career to research, with diverse accomplishments and a particular expertise in pre-clinical surgery. As a senior research scientist at the CRM, Dr. Xie works with investigators to develop innovative surgical procedures that enable translational cell therapy models and techniques to treat a variety of medical problems. Dr. Xie is currently heading the CRM's Spinal Cord Injury program, and the Burn Regeneration program. He is also developing innovative hemostatic techniques in collaboration with industrial partners for controlling refractory bleeding problems through urological and gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures. In addition to these projects, Dr. Xie's surgical expertise is required in nearly every project at the CRM. He is an integral part of the Acute Lung Injury program, the Vascular program, the Limb Regeneration program and more.
Dr. Xie currently holds the position of assistant professor at the Department of Surgery at the School of Medicine of OHSU. He has always harbored an interest in the development of new minimally invasive surgical techniques. As a principal investigator, he has conducted NIH STTR/SBIR research on novel hemostatic technologies for transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) and laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (LPN).
Dr. Xie received his MD and PhD from Tong Ji Medical University, in Wuhan, China. After he received his doctoral degree, he received his fellowship award in the Department of Surgery at West China University of Medical Sciences for prostate cancer and disease research. Dr. Xie also completed research fellowships at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University and Providence St. Vincent Medical Center of Portland on surgical and urological research.
