Prenatal Environment And Child Health (PEACH) Study

Study participation will last from the beginning of your pregnancy (less than 24 weeks gestation) until your child is 3 years old. There will be a total of 6 study visits (2 during pregnancy and 4 visits with your child). We will also collect samples of your placenta and umbilical cord blood after your birth, but this will not require any of your time or attention. Qualified participants will be compensated up to $550 for time and travel.

  • 18-40 years old 
  • Currently less than 24 weeks pregnant

PEACH Child Brain Development Study

Interested in a related study about infant brain functioning? The purpose of this study is to learn more about how prenatal and early life factors influence child brain development, behavior, and mental health. Participation will consist of three sets of questionnaires and up to six visits during which your child will receive an electroencephalogram (EEG) test while we assess their behavior during age-appropriate tasks. Each visit will last up to two hours and interested participants will be compensated up to $360.

PEACH Second Caregiver Study

Is your partner or child enrolled in the PEACH study? If so, we'd love to hear from you too! The purpose of this study is to learn more about how prenatal and early life factors influence child brain development, behavior, and mental health. Participation will consist of three sets of questionnaires and three visits to our laboratory occur when the child is 18, 48, and 54 months old. During the study visits you and the child will be videotaped while completing several age appropriate activities with each other. Each visit will last up to one and a half hours and interested participants will be compensated up to $125.

  • Caregiver to a child currently enrolled in the PEACH study

COVID-19 and Perinatal Experiences (COPE) Study

The COPE Study aims to learn more about people’s experiences and feelings during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The COPE study is part of the COVGEN Research Alliance and is working directly with our collaborators at Oregon Health and Sciences as a part of the Oregon hub.

Oregon branch of the Seattle Water & Environmental Early Life Longitudinal (SWELL) Study

The purpose of this study is to learn more about how chemicals in the water and the environment in pregnancy and in early life affect the health and development of children. As a part of this study, you would collect all urine from you or your infant over a 24-hour period, record all food and drink, and record all dental care practices over the same 24-hour period. In addition, you would complete a survey, collect a sample of the water you drink or the milks your child drinks, and collect a cheek swab. As a thank you for taking part in the study, you would receive $150 on a debit card. 

Eligibility 

  • At least 18 years old
  • Residing in Multnomah County 
  • Currently pregnant OR have an infant 2-4 months old OR 9-15 months old

Breastmilk Pilot Study

OHSU researchers are conducting a pilot study that looks at how the composition of breastmilk may change over time. You would be asked to provide two samples of breastmilk, one collected at home and one in our laboratory.  Additionally, you would be asked to answer questions about your child’s feeding habits.
