Pediatric Dentistry
Child-centered dentistry
The Pediatric Dentistry Clinic at OHSU provides dental care for children and young adults up to age 14. Care is provided by dental students and dental residents under the supervision of experienced pediatric dentists.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that babies get their first oral exam no later than their first birthday. At OHSU, resident and faculty dentists provide care for infants, toddlers and preschool-age children. Faculty pediatric dentists have two to three years of specialized training after dental school.
Our goals are to:
- Provide care that exceeds the needs and expectations of our patients and families
- Train future leaders in pediatric dentistry and oral health sciences
- Advance the frontiers of research and discovery

You can save time by downloading and filling out forms before you arrive:
A sealant is a safe plastic coating applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (premolars and molars). This plastic resin bonds to the pits and fissures of chewing surfaces. These areas are impossible to keep clean because toothbrush bristles are too big to reach into them.
Sealants can prevent up to 80% of cavities in young molars. They are easy to apply, with no need for drills or needles.
Many insurers including the Oregon Health Plan cover dental sealants in children.
