What should you do if your child develops a fever, cough, vomiting, rash, sore throat or head injury? When can your child return to school or child care after an illness? Health problems can arise anytime — evenings, weekends, when you're at work or traveling, or when your doctor's office is closed.
MD 4KIDS is designed for these times. The care guides help you:
- Make smart decisions on what level of care (if any) is needed.
- Learn how to quickly relieve symptoms for minor illnesses or injuries you can manage on your own.
How to use the app

2. Browse or search by symptom
Open the app and select a symptom-finding option:
- Alphabetical: Browse an A-to-Z list of symptoms.
- Area of the body: Select a symptom using an image of affected body areas.
- Keyword search: Search for a symptom care guide by keyword.
3. Choose a care guide
- Choose the most appropriate symptom care guide.
- Use the symptom decision chart to find the recommended action.
- Follow the self-care advice to make your child more comfortable.
Each symptom care guide contains:
- A definition of the care guide's focus so you can decide if it’s a good fit for your problem. If not, you'll find quick links to related guidelines.
- A decision chart to help determine a recommended action based on the severity and description of your symptom.
- Immediate connections to medical help, such as 911, your child’s doctor or a nearby emergency department if you have phone service.
- Clear, up-to-date steps for relieving symptoms of illnesses and injuries that can be treated at home.
- A medication and allergy tracker for managing prescription and over-the-counter medications for your whole family.
- Pediatric dosage tables for common over-the-counter medications.
- Images to help you identify symptoms (such as rashes), injuries, and common causes of bites and stings.
- First-aid topics and illustrations to support immediate action, if needed.
