X-ray and Fluoroscopy

An X-ray of a hand, forearm and part of the upper arm.

X-rays are images of bones and other body parts.

Fluoroscopy is an X-ray that shows a body part or system as it moves. Fluoroscopy helps doctors diagnose or treat conditions.

We provide:

  • The latest X-ray and fluoroscopy technology, including one of the few full-body scanners on the West Coast
  • Radiologists with advanced training
  • Fast results from our 24-hour team
  • Walk-in X-rays with a doctor’s request, with typical waits of less than 15 minutes

What X-ray is used for

Your doctor may recommend an X-ray to:

  • Look at injuries
  • Check the size, shape and position of bones or organs
  • See how bones or organs are growing

What fluoroscopy is used for

Your doctor may recommend fluoroscopy to:

  • Check how your organs and systems are working
  • Help guide imaging

How fluoroscopy works

Before your fluoroscopy

You’ll get instructions through MyChart. Please follow instructions, or we may have to reschedule your appointment.

At your X-ray or fluoroscopy appointment

Please let us know if you’re pregnant or think you may be pregnant.

You’ll be asked to remove items, including jewelry, that could disrupt the imaging. If you need to remove clothing, we’ll give you a gown.

We may have you lie or lean on a table or stand against a wall panel. You’ll need to hold still so the image doesn’t blur. Let us know if you need help leaning or standing.

In some cases, you may have anesthesia or a substance called contrast for fluoroscopy. Contrast helps organs, tissues and blood vessels stand out more. Please let us know if you have allergies.

After your X-ray or fluoroscopy appointment

You’ll get results in 24 to 48 hours through MyChart.

If you had anything for a fluoroscopy, drinking extra water will help flush it out.
